Bicycle: The Film takes you on a ride through history, from the Penny Farthing right through to the present day.
It covers the much maligned Buchanan Report published in 1963, which pretty much booted the cyclist to the bottom of the road hierarchy, leaving us with one heck of a recovery job decades later.
It also goes on to talk about the UK’s track successes since the Barcelona Olympics in 1992, where Chris Boardman won a gold medal on a Lotus-built bike.
It is an excellent watch for anyone interested in cycling, active travel or urban planning. It features a recent Cardiff cycling guest of honour, Carlton Reid too.
Unfortunately, DVD copies are scarce and it’s only available to stream from Vimeo. It is definitely worth a watch, though. You may even have seen this when it was shown at the Sherman a while back…
