You know we love a good hill to climb and many of you do too. However, for three weeks this summer one of our local epic climbs is going to be off-limits, at least occasionally.
A number of tough winters have taken their toll on the tarmac on the Rhigos road, so as part of the £23m investment in highways, Rhondda Cynon Taff Council is going to resurface the stretch of tarmac between Treherbert and Hirwaun.
Traffic Management and a number of road closures are expected to be in place from w/c 21st July 2016 until 31st August 2016. It is expected that the road will need to close for no longer than 3 weeks – this may not be concurrently and this will be done during school holidays while traffic levels are lower, so that disruptions can be kept to an absolute minimum where possible.

Plan carefully…
So whether you fancy trying the Cambrian 1K, or attempting to do the Bwlch and the Rhigos on the bounce, you may want to plan your ride carefully around these closures. You may well get through ok, but there are no guarantees.
It will be worth keeping an eye on the RCT Council Twitter and Facebook for up-to-date news on exactly when the route will be passable and plan your ride around that.
To remind you, we’ve also added the closures to our event planner.
