Beresford Road Bridge Closure

As the electrification of the main line from Cardiff to London continues, hot on the heels of the Windsor Road bridge the next bridge to be closed is the Beresford Road bridge in Splott.

The Network Rail scheme will begin this Saturday and will run until Spring 2017, meaning you’re going to have to deal with diversions for a good few months yet.

Workarounds…

For us cyclists we have a few choices. We can either carry our bikes over the temporary footbridge that will be in place; we can use the Pearl Street bridge or we can follow the traffic diversion detailed in the image above.

However, if you need to get to the Llanrumney end of Newport Road, you can take Muirton Road and then Tweedsmuir Road to Rover Way and head back onto Newport Road where there is a bus lane and a shared path.

More shared paths?

We’re not sure if a decision has been made or not, but the Windsor Road bridge ended up with the much maligned shared paths when it was finally opened. If you live in Splott, it may be worth dropping your councillor a line to see if they can’t have something a little bit better put in…
