Cardiff's Transport and Clean Air Green Paper

The council has just published its transport and clean air green paper and is seeking comments from all of us on some of the ideas it is putting forward. A far cry from the frankly dismal Economic green paper we’ve … Continue reading Cardiff's Transport and Clean Air Green Paper

Cardiff Cycling Strategy 2016-2026 – Deep Dive Part 1…

In our previous post we said we’d take a deeper dive into Cardiff’s Cycling Strategy and share findings with you. However, there’s a mind-boggling amount to get through here, so we’re going to break things up into a series of posts. Also, it is worth remembering that we’ve all been hit with what is essentially two separate exercises on one big lump. On the one side there is the Council’s need to revise its current, ageing cycling strategy, but on the other its obligations to Welsh Government to produce integrated network maps under the Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013. The … Continue reading Cardiff Cycling Strategy 2016-2026 – Deep Dive Part 1…

Taken across seven cities in the UK including Cardiff, the survey aims to shed light on attitudes towards cycling in the UK and, as it turns out, attitudes are better than many of us would have expected. What is a #CycleHack?

If we are to get more people using their bikes for their day-to-day trips & commutes, it’s at a grassroots level that the change will come. Fortunately, the internet has given us the tools and the technology to form movements; to unite under a common purpose and to break down the traditional barriers that would otherwise prevent the people from instigating change. One such movement that many of you will be aware of is Cardiff Cycle City. It’s a group of like-minded cyclists in Cardiff who wish to help Cardiff realise its potential as a two-wheeled haven. However, widening the … Continue reading What is a #CycleHack?

A New Bus & Cycle Lane on Cathedral Road – Your comments

On Friday we posted an article about a proposed bus & cycle lane on Cathedral Road and encouraged you to comment either below or directly to the Council. We also offered to write to the council with your comments on your behalf, should you not feel comfortable doing so. In order to do that, rather than include the comments as they were written we will summarise the issues into a few bullet-points, as follows: Concern that the proposed one-way system will prevent cyclists from crossing to and from the relative safety of Sophia Gardens and into and out of Talbot Street, forcing more people … Continue reading A New Bus & Cycle Lane on Cathedral Road – Your comments

A Car-free Day in Cardiff? YOU can make it happen…

Today is the day Parisians get to experience a quieter, less polluted version of their city, if only for a day. Car-free days are not a new idea –they’ve been happening around the world since the 1950s for various reasons, often as a result of a crisis of some kind. Paris is holding a car-free day today in response to the level of air (and noise) pollution that is normally smothering the streets of the iconic city. The decision to shut down traffic for an entire day was Paris officials’ way of taking a stand against the severity and effects that … Continue reading A Car-free Day in Cardiff?
