Back in March we wrote about the various resources available for planning your own routes. It can be tremendous fun trying to link some of the places you want to go to with good roads to get you there. However, it doesn’t always go to plan. The Bwlch and the Rhigos are seen as somewhat of a right of passage by many cyclists in South Wales. By which, of course, I mean the Bwlch AND the Rhigos, not one or the other. As part of my ongoing, incremental training plan I decided to have a bash at these last Saturday. I chose to do the Bwlch from the Ogmore Valley side this time round, so I headed north out of Cardiff and taking in Llantrisant and Gilfach before dipping down and back up to Glynogwr. Guest Post: Cardiff to Swansea, with a sense of adventure, by @Alistairuff

Cycling between Cardiff and Swansea is possible a few ways, some are nicer than others but most seem to involve going through built up areas and main roads at some point or another. A desire to find a way which was almost traffic free and involved a bit more scenery, coupled with wanting to expand my own mental map of The Valleys by bike I plotted a route. The route utilises a combination of route 8 (Taff trail) to Pontypridd, route 47 through to Tonna and then a canal path and route 4 into Swansea.
