The new Nextbike hire scheme has official launched in Cardiff and most of Cardiff’s inner city areas now have at least one station.

If you live or work in Cathays, Roath, Grangetown, Cardiff Bay or any of the other locations coming online as we type this, you can go and rent a bike.

Cardiff set to have new bike hire scheme

It appears that the rumours were true and we are indeed going to get a new bike share scheme. Rising from the ashes of the ill-fated Oybike, the planned scheme looks to be much bigger, with 500 bikes scattered across Cardiff. However, this time it’ll be funded through sponsorship income, rather than the council’s budget. Subject to a successful procurement the award of contract will be for an initial term of five years, with an option to extend for a further two years. A little while ago we talked about an advert that appeared on Sell2Wales suggesting that a bike hire scheme may be on the way. Cardiff Bicycle Hire Scheme On the Way…

It looks like Cardiff will soon get its own public bike share scheme, just like other cities in the UK… A notice appeared on Sell 2 Wales indicating that Cardiff Council was looking to award a contract at the beginning of January 2016. Cardiff Council is seeking to set-up a public bike share scheme within Cardiff. Initially the scheme will comprise circa 20 docking hubs at strategic locations within the Authority and provide circa 250 bikes at these various locations.
