As part of the North Road cycle lane upgrade the builders have had to close off the gate which forms part of the Bute Park Commuter Route. Until the 8th September, access to the park will be by other means. The council has Tweeted the map below. Alternatives… They are suggesting using the entrance to the park near the castle, but if you normally cross North Road to access the University or the Civic Centre, I’d suggest using Colum Road by taking the Talybont path towards the ambulance station. Colum Road has some traffic calming and those wide but advisory … Continue reading Access to Bute Park at the Royal College of Music & Drama

There are two words that are often used interchangeably when it comes to cycling, ‘Encouraging’ and ‘enabling’. Both are positive-sounding words beginning with the same two letters and ending with the same three, but that is where the similarities end. The Council is holding a number of child cyclist training courses during August, aimed at children over 9 years old. A course is being held during the school holiday at the Road Safety Centre in Maindy for children aged 9 years and over. The course runs over four mornings and costs £10 per child and is open to all Cardiff children but they must be able to ride a bike under control and must bring a roadworthy bike. Every single one of us has a local councillor. Councillors are our means of instigating change in our own neighbourhoods, so when we tell them about our concerns they put them forward for further investigation. The Council has recently published a mammoth 155 pages of those concerns that were raised by people like you during the previous year. Transport Projects have investigated Road Safety issues throughout Cardiff by carrying out a series of Area Studies. The investigations have taken into account new issues raised by Councillors and members of the Public, along with existing issues and areas of concern –via … Continue reading Something to read: Transport Project Investigations 2015

Earlier today we posted to Twitter a new transport project that Cardiff Council are consulting on. It is probably fair to say that the feedback was overwhelmingly negative. So, what is it? The plan is to put a south-bound bus lane at the Cowbridge Road end of Cathedral Road, with a north-bound 1.5m wide cycle lane heading north. It would however be an advisory cycle lane, so without enforcement just as it has on Wellington Street, it becomes a parking lane. As the council put it: A cycle lane is part of the road, which is intended specifically for cyclists to … Continue reading A New Bus & Cycle Lane on Cathedral Road
Here’s our monthly trawl through the council’s transport projects and traffic regulation orders to see if there is anything that may make our lives easier. Enfys Route 6 Route 6 is flavour of the month this month with two notable transport projects on the books. First up, the consultation on the new bridge over the river Ely between Cowbridge Road East and Riverside Terrace has concluded and the post-consultation report has been published. The report mainly focusses on responding to Cardiff Cycle Campaign’s comments, but perhaps the most interesting part of it is that it details the Western Active Travel … Continue reading Council Planning Scan for September 2015
