Get involved in the Vale of Glamorgan's Active Travel Consultation

Whilst we have been a little pre-occupied with Cardiff’s Active Travel Consultation, it’s worth remembering that our neighbouring counties are going through the same process. Cardiff is actually quite small and quick to traverse by bike, meaning that many of us may start our journeys in the Vale, Caerphilly, Newport or RCT. We need to be sure the key routes link up. The Vale The Vale is holding a series of workshops across the county over the next few weeks –follow the link below for details of the nearest one to you. Come along to one of the workshops and share … Continue reading Get involved in the Vale of Glamorgan's Active Travel Consultation

Llandough Hospital – Bike Parking

Good news! Further to our previous post about the University Hospital of Wales, the Cardiff & Vale Health Board’s twitterers came up with a map for Llandough as well. So, there’s some outside the main entrance and across the road by the Llanfair Unit. There’s also some in the new multi-storey car park. The actual capacity at each location is unclear, but if you’ve seen & used the racks, we’d appreciate you getting in touch! Getting to Llandough Getting to Llandough will involve some hill climbing whichever way you go. You can either follow the Ely trail through to Penarth Road, … Continue reading Llandough Hospital – Bike Parking

Places to go an hour's ride from Cardiff…

Inspired by a similarly titled WalesOnline article aimed at drivers, we though we’d take a look at places you could go that were no more than an hour or so’s ride (ok, sometimes closer to two…) from Cardiff. As our starting point, we’ll use Sophia Gardens. Most trails lead here, so it seems like the best place to start. However, some routes to these places will vary in difficulty, but where there are links, you’ll find a route article with more detail. St Fagans Penarth Pier Roath Park Lake Castle Coch Cosmeston Lakes Caerphilly Castle Cafe Velo, Llantwit Major Hengoed … Continue reading Places to go an hour's ride from Cardiff…

Vale of Glamorgan Draft Local Transport Plan

Whilst this is Cardiff by bike, it is easy to forget that many of us will be commuting to and from the neighbouring counties. So, in the interests of completeness we had best take a look at what the wider region has in store for us. First up, the Vale. Just like Cardiff, the Vale has its own Local Transport Plan that takes it up to 2020 and beyond. However, the Vale is enormous and much of it is rural, so the Active Travel Act applies mainly to the big settlements of Penarth, Barry, Llantwit Major, Cowbridge, Dinas Powys, Llandough … Continue reading Vale of Glamorgan Draft Local Transport Plan

A Petition to make the road to Dinas Powys safer for pedestrians and cyclists on Change.org…

The road going into Dinas Powys is currently very dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists as this has led to accidents and deaths. Source: Petition · Make the road to Dinas Powys more safer for pedestrians and cyclists · Change.org As one of Cardiff’s main commuter towns, the roads at either end of Dinas Powys are pretty shocking. This particular petition I believe refers to the Barry end, where you also have to contend with that invariably busy roundabout. There are ways to avoid this stretch of road entirely, if you are heading to or coming from Barry, but it involves … Continue reading A Petition to make the road to Dinas Powys safer for pedestrians and cyclists on Change.org…
